This Independence Day is creeping up on the calendar quickly as the sounds and smells of summer have already begun since the month of June started. If time came a little fast and you’re not sure what to do yet, or you’re worried about keeping the family safe, there is going to be a large firework show at Edgewater Park in Mount Vernon this 4th of July. Edgewater park is a beautiful park located in West Mount Vernon near the bridge over the Skagit River and directly across from the downtown boardwalk. The area boasts a large concert stage that gets used primarily in the Spring, Summer, and Fall.

It also features restrooms, soccer fields, a playground for children, baseball and softball fields, a recently debuted challenging frisbee golf course that provides a new exciting way to make the most of the 55 acre area right on the river, and of course plenty of open grass area for community events like this one. The park has been home for the Skagit Highland games as well as the Skagit River Salmon Festival in past years. Both of these events have been very successful in the past using this location and those who participate are always pleased. The closeness to downtown Mount Vernon makes traveling easy for anyone who is attending from out of town considering the park is located just five minutes from I5. Tell your friends and family and be sure to come out and prepare to be impressed. The City of Mount Vernon will be gathering up all sorts of different fireworks throughout the remainder of June to get ready to show off a wonderful display of color to those who attend this 4th of July. Edgewater park has been home to many other wonderful firework shows in the past years and is a perfect location to see fireworks that are being celebrated all across the town.

Some items that would be good to bring to the show would be a lawn chair, and a blanket. That way you can enjoy the best seat in the house while being comfortable since the show will begin after dark. A flashlight would also be helpful for leaving the show and getting back to your vehicle safely in the dark. The park and parking will open at 8pm for those who want to claim their spot first. The spectacular fireworks show will begin at dark, approximately 10pm. There will be plenty of other fireworks across the Skagit Valley to watch before the big show starts. Derek Cherryholmes, employee of the City of Mount Vernon said, “4th of July wasn’t the same last year with mostly everyone staying home due to COVID-19.” “This year’s firework show should be as good as ever and people can now come out and enjoy the holiday safely”.

By following COVID-19 guidelines and keeping the communities health in mind, there will be no food or music served at the park like there has been in the past. Guests are allowed to bring food to eat during the show but are not allowed to bring any type of barbecue equipment to avoid any safety issues and to keep the park as clean as possible. The City also encourages those who wish to attend to not bring any of their own fireworks that they purchase unless authorized. The City of Mount Vernon values the health of the community greatly and hopes that everyone can enjoy this wonderful show they have decided to put on and the holiday without any issues.
